4 Bathroom Safety Tips for Your Little Ones

Bath Time Safety Tips for Kids

Bath time should be a fun bonding time for you and your little one. How pleasant it is to see your little one enjoying the splash of water. Your baby will only be little once and will grow into toddlers, and soon enough, young adults, in a snap of a finger. That is why moments like these should be cherished and ensure will be a good memory for you and your little one.

Aside from buying your baby’s essentials, it is also important to ensure your child’s safety during the bathroom. Unfortunately, water and other simple household items can be a safety hazard for your little one. Here are bath time safety tips you should consider when you bathe your baby.

The potential dangers of bath time for babies and young children

Taking a bath is something a lot of us look forward to. For parents, this is also an exciting and fun daily routine with their little ones. However, water can be a safety hazard for little children.

Hot water can cause burns and injuries, while stagnant water can be a breeding ground for bacteria and mosquitoes that can cause illnesses. Water can also cause accidental slipping on hard, slippery surfaces. Some household items such as medications, toiletries, and electrical appliances can lead to fatal consequences when you leave children unwatched.

Bath time safety tips for your little ones

Here are ways to ensure your little one’s safety and make sure that they enjoy their bath time.

Make sure that the water temperature does not exceed 120 degrees F.

The water should only have a maximum of 120 degrees F to prevent accidental burns during bath time. Use a bath thermometer when measuring water temperature before bathing your child.

Double-check the surfaces.

A wet tile floor or tub can be slippery and cause accidental slipping and injuries. In this case, it is often recommended to place a non-slip mat or a bathmat beside the tub and bathroom floor. You can also put a thick damp towel on the tub during your child’s bath. Make sure to wipe water splashes off the floor as soon as it occurs to prevent the risk of slips and injuries. You can also install padding and fit over the edge of the tub to further lessen the risk of slipping.

Cover electrical outlets.

Make sure to cover all electrical outlets around the house with safety covers, and are protected with GFCI or ground fault circuit interrupters. Unplug any appliances when not in use. Never use any appliance near water or a bathtub or sink.

Keep bathroom supplies out of little children’s reach.

Most of these products, from shampoos to toilet cleaners, are toxic and not meant to be digested or even come into contact with eyes or skin. The same goes with over-the-counter medications that when accidentally ingested by an unsuspecting kid can lead to fatal consequences. So make sure to keep them in cabinets that are tough to be unlocked by little children.

Bath time should not be a stressful and scary time, but rather a fun and memorable experience, especially for your little one. You can check out children’s items in Franklin TN store for your kids’ personal needs.
