Should You Give a Store-Bought or a DIY Gift?

Store-Bought or Homemade Gifts Which is Better

Buying gifts for a special friend or loved one could be a chore especially if you don’t know what to buy in the first place. There are a lot of choices in a boutique store near you, but there are so many options to choose from. Nonetheless, gift shopping for the holidays can be fun and even unleash your inner creativity.

You can also go DIY if you want. Homemade gifts are thought to be more personalized, thoughtful, eco-friendly, and cheaper than store-bought gifts. However, that is not always the case. DIY gifts could cost some money and time to make, depending on the type of gift you are going to make.

Store-bought or homemade gift: Which is better?

When it comes to gift-giving, most people would always think that “it’s the thought that counts”. Whether it’s for a birthday, a Christmas, or an anniversary gift, we want to give the best gift that will put a smile on the recipient’s face.

Still, the big question remains: Store-bought or homemade gift? The answer is it depends on the recipient’s interest and your budget. Each gift option has its pros and cons and it is up to you whether you have the time to craft a personalized gift or head to the nearest shop for your gifting needs.

Store-bought gifts: Pros and cons

There are infinite choices of gift items when you decide to buy them in a store. However, it is still better to weigh in pros and cons before buying a gift in a store.

Pros

Some kids and adults might be fancying a gift only available in certain stores. It could be the latest smartphone, gadget, or fashion item from a popular brand. Obviously, there won’t be a DIY replacement for these items. Unless you have the skills to make designer clothes or make an electronic gadget from scratch.

If these kinds of store-bought items could make the person happy to receive such a gift from you, it is a great idea to give the gift your recipient(s) deserve in time for the occasion.

Most stores also offer discounts and other enticing promotions, especially during the holiday season. This gives buyers the opportunity to enjoy savings for their gift item purchases. Not to mention a wide assortment of choices when you buy your gifts in Big Box stores.

Cons

If you are looking for a gift that would stand out, store-bought gifts may not be the best option for you. Some people may even think that giving store-bought gifts do not make an extra effort to make it special for the recipient. You might not also be sure of the quality of store-bought gifts unless it offers a warranty.

Homemade gifts: Pros and cons

Meanwhile, homemade gifts could be an ideal choice if you want to give something that is unique and will stand out. Still, you should weigh in pros and cons before starting a DIY gift project.

Pros

The recipients will surely appreciate the effort you put into a DIY gift project and think they are special to receive such gifts from you. These gifts are not easily available in popular groceries and department stores. Only homemade gifts can match the recipient’s interests and personality. Not to mention, a special opportunity for you to showcase your talent.

Cons

On the downside, not everyone can pull off a homemade gift. If you cannot bake or make crafts or are not confident enough at least, you might want to buy gifts from a store instead. DIY gifts may not be cheaper than you think, but it depends on the materials you will use.
